This week, we had a lot of this at our house:
We went to the firework stand on Tuesday and loaded up on fireworks. Most of them we did at our house which is in Washington because across the river in Idaho, they are illegal. Like the mortars and stuff. Ya know…the fun stuff.
The kids loved em.
On the 4th of July, we went to the park where they had an “Old Fashioned 4th of July” celebration. I’m not sure what made it old fashioned, but it was fun. There were tons of people, food vendors, a bouncy castle and a show and shine. After that we went home and rested before going to dinner at my parent’s house. Mmmmm a low country boil. Sausage, potatoes, shrimp, crab, corn all cooked in a big pot. Cenone and Andy brought a couple salads, we brought macaroni and cheese, Anna brought french bread and for dessert, Patti brought strawberry shortcake. So delicious. Then we watched the fireworks across the river. This whole event has been what we’ve done for the 4th of July for as long as I remember — the food might change and for a while we went to Sally’s, but we always spend the summer holiday with my family. Josh and Liisa always come over which is fun because then on the 6th, it’s Josh’s birthday.
So for Josh’s birthday the grownups went out to dinner and then the kids joined us for dessert back at my parent’s.
I’ve been feeling pretty crappy (headaches and nauseous) but it helps to have family in town and to always be doing something fun, that’s for sure.
And now? Now it’s hotter than hell outside and it’s only supposed to get hotter. The kids have swimming lessons in the mornings for the next 2 weeks and then summer school after that. But Dan and I are hoping to fit in a couple trips to the cabin and maybe some river time. We’ll see.
