The No Cavity Club

We are lucky enough to have the resources available (toothpaste, toothbrushes, water, and the opportunity for dental care) to make sure our teeth and mouths are healthy.

I am a stickler on toothbrushing at our house. It might be because one of my best friends, Leann, is a dental hygienist and I just want to make her proud.

It totally pays off. These beautiful smiles are now members of the “No Cavity Club” at Dr. Wiggin’s.

We got to their appointment after school and Jamie and Alice spotted the Wii and Playstation right away.

Maria noticed the tv. She also noticed that Wizards of Waverly Place was playing. A show she’s not allowed to watch. She looked at me and said, “Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll look away. I won’t watch.” Ah, she’s a good girl. I told her not to worry about it. She got called in first so it didn’t matter much anyway.

Jamie was second.

Miss Alice was last.

Charlotte and Mama waited patiently.

Dr. Wiggins said they each have beautiful teeth and take very good care of them. But there are things out of our control that he’s keeping an eye on:

Maria – her mouth is impossibly tiny. The 2 missing teeth up top are waiting for the teeth next to the gaps to fall out so there is room for the 2. Basically, 2 teeth will be fitting where 4 baby teeth were. Yikes. He’s certain there will need to be work done — pulled teeth or expanding her mouth or something. Ouch.

Jamie – He has brown staining that isn’t related at all to brushing or not brushing well enough. Dr. Wiggins thought at first it might be an excess of iron, but since the other kids don’t have a trace of it, he’s not sure that’s the case. We are thinking maybe it might have to do with the fact that he is constantly congested and has a lot of saliva…I have made an appointment with his pediatrician to talk about it.

Alice – She sucks her thumb like it’s nobodies business. Dr. Wiggins said at this point, she’s too little to really do anything about it. But by the time she hits preschool, she will probably stop. I’m betting money that she doesn’t. We’ll see.

They did so great. They love the dentist. It probably has something to do with stickers and toys at the end…
