Today is Monday and not a beautiful one like I was hoping for. It’s kinda crappy outside and definitely not 70 degrees (we were spoiled last Friday and Saturday). So after waking up Jamie and being greeted not with an, “I love you Mama and you are the best,” but instead with an, “I am too tired to wake up, I don’t want to wake up, I am too cold, I don’t want to take Maria to school, I don’t like jeans, I don’t want a waffle, whyyyyyyyy don’t we have milk????” I am exhausted and cranky. Like Jamie.
Currently, I’m watching DVR, Jamie is taking a nap (he got sent to his room for really naughty behavior), Alice is playing with the ipod and Charlotte is sleeping. Yes, I have laundry to do. Yep, the dishwasher needs to be unloaded. And bingo — the basement is a wreck. But I’m not touching any of it.
Instead, I’m going to continue to watch my dvr and plan Maria’s party (which is in 2 weeks. Eeek!)
Okay, so her party is a cowgirl/horse party. I gave her the choice between a horse party and a horse party. She chose horse party (I know, I’m kind of mean). My friend Teresa’s husband is a pediatrician and his nurse, Erica, is basically a cowgirl. She is so awesome and teaches horse riding lessons and also does birthday parties! So Erica is going to come and bring her horse and give horse rides.
Food? We’re going to grill hot dogs and hamburgers. There will be popcorn, carrot sticks, and chips. We’ll do juice and lemonade in cute cups.
Games? I’m going to organize some games. Maybe an egg race (ya know where you put an egg on a spoon and run to the other side), pin the tail on the horse, a scavenger hunt…something to use up 2 hours of party time.
Favors? I ordered horse crayons from etsy, they are each getting a bandana, little toy horses, horse stickers, and a mason jar that is full of “cowgirl cookie mix” thanks to one of my favorite bloggers, Bakerella.
Atmosphere? The party is going to be at my friends Cenone and Andy’s house where they have quite a bit of land behind their house. Enough for a horse to give rides and kids to run around. I’m hoping to find hay bales. I need to paint some signs. I need to get balloons and make pinwheels. Her invites (from Nicole at Olive and Star) are brown and pink, so I’ll get brown tablecloths with pink accents. I’d love to do a “Wanted” photo booth backdrop but I’m not sure if I’ll have time to make it. I also need to get tents at the ready just in case it’s rainy. And a little Hoedown Throwdown.
Gifts? From us, Maria is getting horse-riding lessons, a few American Girl outfits and a big horse (thanks, Megan!). Oh, and a sweet birthday party.
We’re excited. Josh and Liisa are hopefully going to be here which is always fun. It’ll be just before Spring Break, hopefully we have a good turnout, and who doesn’t love horse rides?
